These gorgeous handspun 100% sheepswool hats are guaranteed to keep the winter willies away for the wee ones. Made in Pitumarca, about 2 hours from Cusco, where the Sisters of St Joseph have set up an employment generation program. Women come from surrounding villages to collect wool from the Sisters (free of charge) which they then use to make these hats. When they have finished, they return to the Sisters' house where they receive cash in hand payment for their work. This way no middle man profits from their work - they are paid directly. The hats are then posted to Ethica Accessories and sold to Australians who want to look good and feel good about their clothing! These hats are traditionally made using hand-spun and hand-dyed sheepswool. The dyes are made from natural plant and vegetable dyes. Each one is absolutely unique and comes with a label showing the name of the talented lady who made it.
