Mulykuya Ken Woollen Rug/ Wall Hanging

Mulykuya Ken Woollen Rug/ Wall Hanging

$880.00

These texturally exquisite rugs/wall hangings are created through Better World Arts Cross Cultural Projects. This rug was designed by Mulykuya Ken of Kaltjiti Arts in the Anangu/Pitjantjatjara/Yankunytjatjara lands in central Australia and chain-stitched by skilled Kashmiri artisans with the highest quality Kashmiri wool.

This rug is taken from an original painting that Mrs Ken painted at Better World Arts’ weekly artist workshops in Port Adelaide. Mrs Ken describes her painting as Walka - Walka is any meaningful mark or pattern and may be an image on a cave wall, on rock or on sand and has cultural and ritual significance. It is used on the body during inma or ceremony. This painting resembles several animal markings such as snake scales and animal footprints.

Mrs Ken’s lively images reflect the physical and cultural landscape of her homeland in the desert which is rich in wildlife and colour, changing with the seasons. As an elder she is custodian of stories and cultural lore passed down through the generations.
All BWA rugs come with a Certificate of Authentication.
