These texturally exquisite cushion covers are created through Better World Arts Cross Cultural Projects. This cushion was designed by Ormay Nangala Gallagher of the Anangu/Pitjantjatjara/Yankunytjatjara lands in central Australia and chain-stitched by skilled Kashmiri artisans with the highest quality Kashmiri wool. The Cross Cultural Projects give substantial benefits to all the participants in the production process. The results truly have to be seen and touched to be believed.

Yankirri Jukurrpa (Emu Dreaming) – Ngarlikurlangu The ‘yankirri’ travelled to the rockhole at Ngarlikurlangu to find water. Emus are represented by their ‘wirliya’ (footprints), arrow-like shapes that show them walking around eating ‘yakajirri’ (bush raisin). In the time of the Jukurrpa there was a fight between a ‘yankirri’ ancestor and Wardilyka (Australian bustard) ancestors over sharing the ‘yakajirri’. This Jukurrpa story belongs to Jangala/Jampijinpa men and Nangala/ Nampijinpa women and there is a dance that is performed during initiation ceremonies.
