Oiko

Oiko’s lifestyle brand is a fusion of contemporary Australian design and traditional South East Asian handcrafted techniques. Their waxhemp textiles are entirely hand made. The raw hemp fibre is processed by hand into yarn then woven on traditional looms by Hmong women in Laos and Vietnam. Each piece is then hand painted using hot wax to create oiko's unique designs.

Designer Kathy Stefanac launched Oiko’s first range in 2005. Oiko is now stocked in specialist boutiques and art gallery stores throughout Australia and New Zealand. Kathy also works with interior designers providing Oiko textiles and decor for boutique hotels.

Oiko comes from the ancient Greek word oikos and means home, ecology and the environment. Kathy launched Oiko to fulfil a growing need in the market for well designed product made with consideration for conserving the environment. Their unique product is produced ethically while empowering highly skilled traditional artisans and preserving their unique cultural skills.

Oiko embraces Fair Trade principles and is a member of FTAANZ - Fair Trade Association of Australia and New Zealand. Oiko fosters close working relationships with family owned enterprises in rural communities and pays a fair wage to all their artisans.
