Kunytjitja Brown Woollen Rug

Kunytjitja Brown Woollen Rug

$630.00

These texturally exquisite rugs are created through Better World Arts Cross Cultural Projects. This rug was designed by Kunytjitja Brown of Kaltjiti Arts in the Anangu/Pitjantjatjara/Yankunytjatjara lands in central Australia and chain-stitched by hand by skilled Kashmiri artisans with the highest quality Kashmiri wool. The Cross Cultural Projects give substantial benefits to all the participants in the production process. The results truly have to be seen and touched to be believed.

This rug is taken from an original painting. This image is part of the recent emergence of exciting semi-abstract paintings that express Tjukurrpa (Creation Stories) and contemporary life. This style of work is unique to the Aboriginal women artists of the Pitjantjatjara/Yankunytjatjara Lands, in remote north-west South Australia, but is also a part of the wider development of contemporary Aboriginal art. Country and culture, as well as exposure to the contemporary art world give these works distinctive ingredients that unite them as community creations.
