This striking necklace was crafted from the seeds of the aptly named red bead tree by artist Garmaga Jaragba of Anindilyakwa Art. The seeds are naturally red but the colour is deepened by heating them in coconut ash. The orange seeds are picked early to contrast beautifully with the ripe red seeds.

Anindilyakwa Art was established in 2005 by the Anindilyakwa Land Council to help local artists promote and sell their artwork. Groote Eylandt is a small island in the Gulf of Carpentaria and is an aboriginal reserve. Until the opening of the Art Centre the local artists were very limited in outlets for art sales, usually selling to the local mining community.
