CIAP

CIAP (Central Interregional Artisans of Peru ) is a non-profit ,self managed association of artisan producer groups. It was founded in 1992.

Ciap's mission is to promote the development of the artisans, their families and communities by marketing their products under better terms of trade. Its member groups have different craft specialities eg the wonderful array of handpainted ceramics, a variety of musical instruments, unique jewellery items and handknitted alpaca clothing.The artisans are located in various regions of Peru as well as marginalised districts of Lima.

For CIAP to create better employment opportunities for their artisans and their communities, the artisans work together to consolidate orders and minimise the costs of their commercial operations. All members of CIAP benefit from a number of non-commercial activities including training, organizational support, financial management, credit facilities, product development, health support and social events.


Objectives of CIAP

• To defend and preserve the cultural identity of the Andes and the Amazon regions.

• Promote the organisation of artisans and the strengthening of existing organisations.

• Bring about improvement in the living conditions of the artisans, their families and communities.

• To support the complete development of the communities where the associations are located.

CIAP is a member of IFAT.
